If you want to move a fund between the Major and Non-Major sections, this article explains how.
Update the Fund Mapping File
- Navigate to the Report Tree.
- Search for the Administration folder.
- Open the Fund Mapping File.
- Modify the Reporting Fund:
-
Change reporting fund code for the fund that needs to be moved to code that reflects the appropriate section.
-
Add a New Reporting Fund in MDFM
- Navigate to Administration > Dimensions.
- Place the new fund within the appropriate GASB fund category under the ‘Statements’ folder, such as:
- Reporting Funds - Governmental Funds
-
Reporting Funds - Proprietary Funds
3. Data Upload
- Follow the instructions in the Data Upload section to upload data.
4. Update the Statement Structure (If Needed)
- Add new dimension members to the Statement Structure (if there are no), such as:
- “Restatement”
- “Beginning balance, as previously reported”
- “Beginning balance, as restated”
- Add formulas for the newly created dimensions, only if necessary.
- Note: Do not edit or add dimensions if all required line items already exist in the statement structure.
5. Make Adjustments for Restatement
- Perform a reclassification adjustment for the beginning balance:
- Reclassify the amount of the beginning balance, as previously reported, from the old Reporting Fund Code to the new Reporting Fund Code.
- Refer to the Posting Adjustment section for detailed guidance.
6. Validation
- Ensure fund has two Reporting Fund Codes:
- The original Reporting Fund Code (now unused).
- The newly created Reporting Fund Code.
-
Important:
- Do not move a fund directly between sections in MDFM Administration.
- Suppress the old fund during the MDFM Import stage if it should not appear in the statement.
