- Note numbers are automated through Gravity's variable functionality. While most variables are "Link" variables, to create an automated note numbering system, we have to create "Note" variables.
- Click here where you want the note and type "#".
- Now, it is time to create the note variable. Open the note you wish to tie to this section.
- To create a note variable, we have to have a "Note #" at the top of the document.
- After adding the "Note #", select the “#” and then click "Extensions".
- Click "Gravity Editor Add-On".
- Click "Extensions".
- Click "Gravity Editor Add-On" then select "Variables".
- Click "Create".
- Name the note. Generally, it is advisable to follow a naming convention such as "Amortization Note” or "Tax Levy Note" so that the notes are tied to the topic rather than their order in the document.
- Select the "Note" option in the "Link Type" drop down menu.
- Click "OK".
- Navigate back to the MD&A statement.
- Select the "#".
- Click "Extensions".
- Click "Gravity Editor Add-On".
- Click "Show Variables Panel".
- In the Variable Panel, select the "Note" option.
- Click on "Note 1" to open up the variable's details.
- Click on the insert icon.
- Once the "#" becomes highlighted in yellow, the note variable has been inserted. Repeat these steps for every note you wish to automate.
