Rolling forward a quarterly financial report copies your existing report structure into the new period, updates dimensions, and applies any rollover rules — so you can start each quarter without rebuilding from scratch.
There are 4 sections when rolling forward a quarterly financial report. Select the section below to navigate directly to that section.
- Report Back-Up
- Dimension Updates
- MDFM Roll Forward
- Final Report Rollover
Report Back-Up
- Navigate to your quarterly or monthly report.
- Select the Copy icon to the right of the report name to create a back-up before making any changes.
- Navigate to the MDFM by selecting the Data icon.
- Navigate to the Admin section.
- Optionally (but recommended), select Quarterly from the dashboard dropdown to filter your view.
Dimension Updates
- Navigate to Dimensions and open the Quarterly section. Select Edit next to Quarterly Periods.
- Select Add a row in the top right of the table.
- Name your new period (typically
YEAR_QXorYEAR_MON), copy the name exactly into the Code column, then select the floppy disc icon to save.
- Select the pencil icon beside the prior period to lock it.
- Check the Locked box and then select the floppy disc icon to save.
MDFM Roll Forward
- Navigate to Roll Forwards in the sidebar.
- Select Quarterly and then select Validate.
- Select Next.
- Select the period you are rolling from.
- Select the period you are rolling to.
- Select Execute.
- Select Close when complete.
Final Report Rollover
- Navigate back to the home page and open Settings.
- Select Roll Forward.
- Select your quarterly or monthly report and select Next.
- Select the period you are rolling to and select Next.
- Select the pencil icon beside any report variables that need to be updated for the new period.
- When complete, select Next.
- Decide whether to run any rollover rules in manual tables or charts. In most cases, select Yes to carry forward your existing rules.
- Select Next.
- Review all information to ensure it is correct and complete. When satisfied, select Execute Roll Forward.
