Report variables allow report editors to reference common text and images within text and header blocks and charts or manual tables. It provides a centralized location to easily update recurring content or images across the entire report year over year.

Insert Report Variables into a Text or Header Block Walkthrough

Step-by-Step Instructions
- To insert a variable into a text or header block, click into the specific block.
- Click Insert Variable and select Report Variable.
- Note: The variable button may be hidden behind the Options (three dots) button depending on your screen size.
- Optional: Click New Variable to create a variable as needed and follow the prompts.
- Select the variable you created OR select an existing variable.
- Click Insert variable.
The variable will be inserted into the text block. You will know it's a variable when the text and border is purple. Double click on the variable if you need to edit it. You can also copy and paste the variable to other text blocks within your report by selecting it and using Ctrl + C and Ctrl + V to copy and paste.

Step-by-Step Instructions
- Select the table to begin the process and click Edit Table.
- Note: The functionality is the same in the table for a chart. Instead of Edit Table, select Edit Chart.
- Click into the cell you want to insert a variable in.
- Click the Variable icon (link icon with a drop down).
- Select Report Variable
- Select the variable you want to use or create a New Variable.
- Click Insert variable.
You will know the data in the cell is a variable in a table if it has a purple cell border and a grey font. Double click on the variable if you need to edit it. You can also copy and paste the variable to other text blocks within your report by selecting it and using Ctrl + C and Ctrl + V to copy and paste.
