Digital Budget Books - Financial Page Settings - Configure Charts

This article is intended for: Editors of a budget book document responsible for creating and managing financial pages.

Use this article after: You have added financial pages to your document, reviewed them, and are ready to apply universal changes.

Depending on the type of financial pages you have created, you will have settings for those dimension types (e.g., Fund Summary Pages, Program, and Department). Follow these steps to access the settings.

  1. Navigate to the budget book’s Settings menu
  2. Select the Dimension page tab (i.e., Fund Summary, Location, Department, Program, etc.) to begin to make edits to the pages of that dimension universally.  
    Note: Universal Page Settings will apply to all pages within that dimension section of pages. 

Pro-Tip: It is recommended to make changes to your financial pages in bulk. This will standardize your financial pages and streamline your time management for customizing your financial pages. 

Configure Chart Types

When Financial Pages are created, content block sections are auto-generated to display data by every dimension in your Chart of Accounts. Each financial dimension content block section contains auto-generated summary, multi-year and single-year charts. Follow the steps below to configure your charts universally for all pages of a given dimension. Select the link below to jump directly to the corresponding section of the article.

Summary Charts

Select the carat (>) icon to the left of the Summary Section to expand it. Then, select the configure button to the right of the Revenues vs Expenditures Summary Chart in that section.

  • Hide Expenditures Over Budget - Enable this option if you do not want to display the amount by which actual expenditures exceeded the budget.
  • Hide Revenue Surplus - Enable this option if you do not want to display the amount by which actual revenues exceeded the budget.
  • Value Scale - choose to display values by thousands (K), millions (M), or billions (B). The Auto option automatically scales values to present the data in the most readable format. 
  • Value Decimal Places - Select to display up to 2 decimals for the values.

When you are finished, select the Configure Chart button to save the chart type. 

Multi-Year Charts

Select the carat (>) icon to the left of a section to expand it. Then, select the configure button to the right of the auto-generated multi-year chart in that section.

  • Chart Type - Choose between stacked column, stacked mountain, and stacked bar chart options.
  • Toggle Hide small values from legend to hide legend items that represent less than 1% of the total.
  • Toggle Display values above bar/column charts off if you do not wish to display approximate values above column/bar charts.
  • Stack Order - choose to stack data by highest values at the bottom, or highest values at the top.
  • Value Scale - choose to display values by thousands (K), millions (M), or billions (B). The Auto option automatically scales values to present the data in the most readable format. 
  • Value Decimal Places - Select to display up to 2 decimals for the values.

When you are finished, select the Configure Chart button to save the chart type. 

Single-Year Charts

Select the carat (>) icon to the left of a section to expand it. Then, select the configure button to the right of the auto-generated single-year charts in that section.

  • Chart Type - Choose between donut, pie, and bar chart options.
  • Toggle Hide small values from legend to hide legend items that represent less than 1% of the total.
  • By default, system-generated donut charts display a value without a dollar sign. Toggle Display $ in Donut Charts to add the dollar sign, but reduce the font size of the figure.
  • Legend Values Alignment - select left or right for the alignment of values in the legend.
  • Value Decimal Places - Select to display up to 2 decimals for values. 
  • Percent Decimal Places - Select to display up to 2 decimals for the percentage values.

When you are finished, select the Configure Chart button to save the chart type.
