Manage your ClearGov Financial Data
Financial Engagement uses your ClearGov Financial Data to populate the Revenue and Expenditures Widget.
Revenue and Expenditures Widget
In the Design Editor, if you have the Financial Engagement subscription, you can select to add the Revenue and Expenditures widget.

How does ClearGov Data Work?
The ClearGov Data Team uploads your ClearGov Data and Chart of Accounts. After that, you can keep your data current in three ways:
- Operational Budgeting: if you budget in Operational Budgeting, saving a version of your default budget updates the widget's budgeted figures.
- The Financials tool: add and update versions yourself.
- A Data Update Request: send new financial data to the Data Team.

Update Your Data in the Financials Tool
You can view and manage your ClearGov onboarded data in the ClearGov Financials Tool.
Log in to ClearGov and navigate to Financials to get started.
Add and Update Financial Versions
Use this to replace a version's numbers, such as loading a fiscal year's updated actuals or an amended budget.
- Select Update Existing Version or Add Version.
- If updating, choose the version you want to update.
- In the blue text box, select Download the ClearGov Template, and fill it in with your data.
- Select Start.
- Drag and drop your completed file, or select Upload file and browse to it.
- Use the drop-down next to each column to match your columns to the required fields, then select Continue.
- Review the data and fix any errors. Errors appear in red, and you can hover over one to see why. Select Submit.

Choose the Default Version
The default version is the one ClearGov shows for a fiscal year.
- Select Manage Versions.
- Find the fiscal year and select the radio button next to the version you want as the default. Each version type can have only one default per year.
- Select Save Version Updates.
Note: If you budget in Operational Budgeting, choose your default budget with the toggle on the Operational Budgeting home screen instead.

Edit Historical Account Values Directly
You can type directly in the value box for the account to edit historical budget amounts for specific accounts. To see what a value was before, open the Audit Trail.

Add Checkbook Data
In the Financials Worksheet, select the Checkbook tab, then select + Add Check(s).
If you don't see the option to upload your own Checkbook data in the Financials Worksheet, reach out to your ClearGov point of contact to get that feature enabled.
See Financials - Import Checkbook Data for the full steps.
ChatBot Note: Updating your financial data does not change your Budget Assistant (AI Chatbot). It answers from the budget PDF you uploaded, so swap that PDF when your adopted budget is ready.
