Readers often want to see the source material behind your budget, such as studies, exhibits, or supplemental reports. With attachments, you can upload PDF files right where readers need them. Attachments display as links in the web view and stay clickable when you export your document to PDF.
There are 3 steps to attach a supporting document. Select the step below to navigate directly to that section.
Step 1: Choose Where the Attachment Belongs
Navigate to the page in your document and find the text content block where you want to insert an attachment. Place your cursor in the text where you want the attachment link to appear.
Pro Tip: Add a short sentence that introduces the attachment, such as "View the full facilities study." Clear link text helps every reader know what they are opening.
Step 2: Upload Your Supporting Document
Select the paper clip icon in the rich text editor toolbar. Then, choose the file from your computer and select the open button. Only PDFs 15MB or smaller can be attached.
Then, confirm the attachment appears as a link in your content block.
Pro Tip: Once the attachment is inserted, its display name cannot be changed. Name the file something reader-friendly before uploading it into the document.
Step 3: Preview the Attachment Link
- Select the Preview toggle to view your page as readers will see it.
- Select the attachment link to confirm it opens in a new tab or downloads.
- Generate a PDF of your document to confirm the attachment link is clickable in the PDF view. Learn how to generate a PDF with this article: Document Building - Publicize your Document.
Note: Attachments added to Capital Requests in Capital Budgeting are called Supplemental Attachments and are managed in your document's Capital Projects settings. The steps in this article apply to attachments you add directly in the document editor.
