This article outlines how MDFM administrators create and post rounding adjustments, within a fund category during the year-end reporting process. This should be done only as needed upon reviewing funds in all data models.
Tip: If you have not yet reviewed your funds in the data models, use this guide to ensure you are adding these adjustments at the correct stage of the process.

Step-by-Step Instructions
As part of the rounding review process, if you see anything other than a 0 in the Check table view of a data model, you will need to make a rounding adjustment.
- Click Adjust to begin the process.
- In the select type field, select Rounding.
- In the Statement Structure field, select the row to which you need to apply the rounding.
- In the Reporting Funds field, select the specific fund to make the rounding adjustment to.
- Note: You can expand the hierarchy to find what you need or you can search for exactly what you need.
- The period will already be selected based on the global period selected on the Map section of the data model.
- Click Select Transaction
- Select the row with "JE" listed in the majority of the columns to create a new adjustment.
- Note: If this fund already has other adjustments associated with it, you will see those listed as well.
- Enter the Rounding Adjustment in the appropriate amounts column. This is typically the Ending Balance for ACFR and Actuals for Budgets.
- Click the Save (floppy disk) icon to save the edits.
- Click Post Transactions to create the rounding adjustment.
Once posted, you will see the adjustment in the Posted Adjustment tables and it should be applied to that area of the table view. You can always review the Check table view to ensure the adjustment helped create balance.
Troubleshooting
Issue: I rounded a total or roll-forward line and the difference didn’t go away.
Solution: Calculated lines such as Operating Income and Beginning and Ending Balance are formulas (for example, Beginning Balance + Net Change = Ending Balance). Remove that adjustment and round the lowest-level line that feeds into the total instead.
Issue: I adjusted the Unassigned/Unrestricted line and now the Ending Balance is off again.
Solution: Create a separate line item inside the Unassigned/Unrestricted folder for the rounding adjustment. Then re-check the Ending Balance, because this adjustment can move it.
Issue: I fixed one budgetary column, but another column now shows a difference.
Solution: The adjustment likely landed in the wrong target column. Reverse it, confirm the target (usually Actual), and post it there.
