To help residents understand how their specific tax contribution is allocated across expense categories, there is an optional feature called, "Your Contribution." When turned on, if a visitor views the Expenditures page, a popup will be displayed asking them to enter either their annual tax bill or home value (you choose which one is best for your community). When a value is entered, annual tax dollar values are presented as their contribution per year rather than per capita per year.
By default, this feature is turned ON and will ask visitors to enter their annual tax bill. Follow these instructions to make changes:
- Log in to your ClearGov account.
- Select the Transparency application in the left navigation column then select Your Contribution tile.
- The toggle button at the top controls whether this feature is ON or OFF.
- If your municipality only receives a portion of the tax dollars from residents, specify the percentage of the tax bill that goes to your municipality in the box under Visitor enters annual tax bill.
- To have visitors enter their home value instead of the annual tax bill, click on the Visitor enters home value checkbox. If you select this option you will also need to enter the tax rate per thousand of assessed value.
- Or if you wish for the Visitor Enters Income Tax Contribution, select the checkbox and enter the percentage of the tax bill that your municipality receives.
-
If you wish to exclude certain expense categories or funds from tax dollar allocation, uncheck the item in either the category or fund list.
- To see lower-level categories and funds, click on the arrow to the left of an item. An outlined arrow indicates the item can be expanded. A solid arrow indicates the item cannot be expanded because it is the lowest level.
- You can select categories and funds in both ClearGov and Native categories. Read this article to understand the difference between ClearGov and Native categories.
