Trend charts enable you to clearly track and visualize how your data evolves over time.. They can be used to identify trends going up or down, special patterns, or unusual occurrences. ClearGov provides a number of trending chart options including Line Charts, Mountain Charts, and Column Charts.
- Select Trending Chart as the Chart Type.
- Select the Chart Style you would like to display. Don't worry - you can change this later if you prefer a different style.
- Choose the Data Source information that you would like displayed on the trending chart. With trending charts, you will want to choose a start year to an end year.
- If you are using ClearGov Financial Data, select the Data Source and Budget Version for each year in your trending chart.
- Use the Chart Display settings to group value and x-axis categories by year, financial data, or account, giving you more granular detail and clear trend visibility.
- You have the option to Filter your data to display specific values on your chart.
- Select the Generate Chart button. Your chart will be created and ready for you to customize!
Customizing your Trending Chart
Customize your trending chart by adjusting the settings below to control how your data is displayed and styled.
- Chart Settings allow you to change the Chart Style, Size, Legend, Labels, and Chart Data and Data Point Labels.
- Select the edit pencil to change the Chart Title.
- The Data Source can also be edited on this page.
- Include alt text that describes the information captured in your chart. This ensures that your chart is ADA-compliant.
- Once you are finished editing the chart select Save Chart.
Note: Each style will allow you to hover over the image and will display the fund, object, or department/division name and label choices.
Once the chart is saved, you will have the ability to:
- Add Collaborators to the Chart
- Lock the chart meaning no edits can be made
- Clone (copy) the chart
- Download a png. file
- Copy an HTML code
Chart Styles
There are multiple chart styles available for use with trending charts:
- Line
- Stacked Mountain
- Stacked Column
- Mountain
- Column
- 3D Column
Which style you choose to use is how you wish to tell the narrative surrounding this chart.
Pro Tip: When selecting the Actual Financial Data Versions in the Data Source, End of Year projections versions are available choices to display more accurate trend charts for current year statistics. End-of-Year projections are created within the Operational Budgeting application.
