Charts - Use Gauge Charts

A gauge chart is a type of data visualization often used to display a single data value with a quantitative context. With a shape that resembles a speedometer, this chart aims to track the progress of a key indicator in comparison to a set target or to other time periods.

  1. Select the Gauge Chart on the Chart Type. 

  2. Select what Chart Style you would like to display. Don't worry you can change this later if you decide it's not the right style.

    The Data Source information by default will be your own custom data. This means you will be inputting the figures that you wish to be displayed in the chart.  

  3. Select the Generate Chart button.

  5. Chart Settings allow you to change the Chart Style, Size, Legend, Labels, and Chart Data and Data Point Labels.
  6. Include alt text that describes the information captured in your chart. This ensures that your chart is ADA-compliant.
  7. Add custom data to your Data Source.
  8. Select the edit pencil to change the Chart Title.
  9. Once you are finished editing the chart select Save Chart.

Once the chart is saved, you will have the ability to:

  • Add Collaborators to the Chart
  • Lock the chart meaning no edits can be made
  • Clone (copy) the chart
  • Download a png. file
  • Copy an HTML code

Chart Styles

There are multiple chart styles available for use with gauge charts:

  • Solid: In the data source, set a single Category name, Current Value, and Max Value.
  • Speedometer: In the data source you will set Categories and Value for Current, Low Range, Mid Range, and Top Range. Select the color radios to change colors.
  • Half Speedometer: In the data source you will set Categories and Value for Current, Low Range, Mid Range, and Top Range. Select the color radios to change colors.
  • Bullet: In the data source you will set Categories and Value for Current, Low Range, Mid Range, and Top Range. Select the color radios to change colors.

Which style you choose to use is how you wish to tell the narrative surrounding this chart. 

Pro-Tip: Check for color compliance with ADA requirements.
