Navigate the Table Editor
To access the Table Editor, create a new Table or Chart or select Edit Table or Edit Chart from an existing block. The Table Editor will open.
Basic Functionality
- The editor is meant to work similarly to an Excel Spreadsheet.
- The main working area is the spreadsheet under the Display sheet. The Display sheet will be what is utilized in the report.
- Under File, you can add a new spreadsheet, rename the active worksheet and delete the active worksheet. Print will allow you to print or download a PDF version of your table.
- Note: You cannot delete the Display sheet.
- Under Edit, you will find basic commands like undo, redo, cut and copy.
- Tip: Common keyboard commands like Ctrl + Z for undo and Ctrl + C for copy will also work within the spreadsheet.
- Under Export, download a CSV file of your table. The file will immediately download into your browser's download folder.
- The toolbar at the top of the Editor holds many formatting and other tools to help you build and format the data in the table. Hover over an icon to learn its functionality.
- Note: These are also available for Charts; however, the formatting of the table isn't as important within a chart and you will have the ability to customize the chart itself.
Add Additional Spreadsheets
- Add additional sheets to the table to use a reference or for other needs. Select the Plus icon to add a sheet.
- Note: You can also add a new sheet by selecting File and New Spreadsheet.
- Select the Insert Data icon to add in MDFM data as another spreadsheet to use for reference. You can bring in both a flattened version of a specific table and the linked accounts used in a table.
- After selecting either option, select the source and pivot view you want to reference and then select next.
- Make modifications to the table and select different fields as needed by opening the field chooser.
- Click Finish to import the sheet. The import will be a new sheet in the table editor.
- Right click on Sheet tabs to rename the worksheet or delete it among other options.
- Note: You can also double click on the tab to rename it.
Working in the Sheet
- You can select multiple cells, an entire row and an entire column, just like in Excel.
- Each column has a filter icon. Click this icon to search for and filter your table to help you focus your efforts.
- After selecting a cell, select the Search (magnifying glass) icon to find specific values in the worksheet(s).
- In the pop-up you can find specific values and replace them with a different value. This can be done in all worksheets in your table.
- Edit cells in the spreadsheet just as you would in Excel. Either type directly into the cell or use the formula bar to make edits.
- Use common Excel formulas to create calculations within your Worksheet.
- Note: Once you begin to type the formula, a list of formulas will appear for you to select from making it easier to find what you need.
- Click the Show Formulas icon to see any formulas in the table. Select it again to return back to the values.
- Right click within the sheet to gain access to common functionality like inserting and deleting rows and columns, cut, copy, paste.
The table will save changes automatically. When ready to return to the report, select the Close (X) button in the upper right hand corner.
